Jämtland Härjedalen is often called ‘the lungs of Europe’ because of its clean air. But the area is also known for its easily accessible wilderness, beautiful nature and good food. It is located in southern Norrland where you can visit Sweden’s fifth biggest lake, Storsjön, and look for the mythical Great-Lake Monster, which, according to legend, lives in the lake.
Jämtland Härjedalen offers magnificent, unspoilt mountain landscape with reindeer and other wild animals. In the winter there are many ski slopes to choose from, such as Åre, which is Sweden’s oldest and most popular ski resort. In the summer, the slopes are often used for downhill cycling, including in Lofsdalen and Funäsfjällen. The fishing season lasts all the year round in Jämtland Härjedalen and there are thousands of fishing waters, lakes, streams and rivers with plenty of fish. There are also many footpaths.
