Lits camping&stugby is beautifully situated in a valley just where the Hårkan river meets the Indalsälven river. It's near the town of Östersund (only 15 minutes drive on route 45) but it's also near the unspoilt wilderness and you can set off directly from the campsite either on foot or by canoe/boat which you can hire from us (about 200 SEK/day 650SEK/week).

The campsite has been a family business since 2000 and we brought all our canoes here from Little Lake Hill Canoe Centre which was previously in the town of Lillsjöhögen about 30 km from Lit(and well-known as one of the biggest canoeing centres in Norrland).

Our site is the ideal base for canoeing enthusiasts. We offer suggestions for one-day, weekend and 1-2 week excursions in the mountains. Our camping site is the perfect place to finish such a trip as here you can shower and have a good meal (walking distance), not to mention hire a cottage or caravan or just put up your own tent - right by the banks of the river.

We also provide an enormous range of activities. Here you can play mini golf - tennis - badminton -football -boule - beach volleyball - and roller-skate -or perhaps test out the athletics track or take a walk or a jog through all the nearby forest paths. After one of these activities you can, with a good conscience, relax on the sand beach by the "river lagoon" or take a refreshing dip, there. (see picture above).

Why not fish in a stream whose clear, clean water runs down from the mountains in the north-west? With a little luck and skill you can catch salmon trout - grayling - pike - perch using a spinner, fly or worm. Children under 15 can fish free of charge. Adults must buy a fishing licence and these are available at very reasonable prices in the reception. (about 25 SEK /for 24 hours).

Only 1000 metres from the campsite /canoeing centre is the village of Lit which has a licensed pizzeria/restaurant as well as a very cosy café, located in a charming 100-year-old building. Lunches are served there (open 11am-4pm - lunch buffet 11am-1pm) and they also take group bookings (+46 642 -106 45). Statoil has a well-stocked petrol station (open 7am-midnight on weekdays, Saturday- 8am -midnight and Sunday 9am -midnight. Tel: +46 642 -102 34).

Its closeness to Östersund makes Lits Camping a perfect base for those wishing to visit: Frösö Zoo - Jamtli+ Museum - Stosjöbadet (adventure baths) -the Aviation Museum-Frösö Tower (which has a fantastic view of the Jämtländ/Norwegian mountains -on a clear day you can see for about 130 km!) - Storsjöyran -not to mention doing some shopping in Östersund. A day trip to the mountains is also possible (only one hour's drive). You can get to the top of Åreskutan by cableway (1420 metres over the sea) or of course you can walk up under your own steam.
